馬太福音導言

馬太福音有 28 章。它從耶穌的家譜和出生記載開始，最後是關於他復活顯現的報道。整本書貫穿了耶穌事工中的一些故事，包括他的受洗、受試探、呼召門徒、傳道、講道和醫治，最後前往耶路撒冷，在那裡他被羅馬人出賣並處決。
馬太福音是新約傳統順序中的第一本書。它當然不是第一本被寫成最終被包含在新約中的書。它也不可能是第一本被寫成的福音書。然而，俄利根引用早期教會傳統稱“......第一本是由馬太寫的”。（俄利根 - 教會史，6:15）它肯定是在公元 70 年耶路撒冷聖殿被毀之前寫成的。
這部福音書的主題是基督作為猶太人的彌賽亞。作者馬太是一位猶太稅吏，後來成為耶穌的門徒。這是由馬太本人講述的。這部福音書充滿了猶太元素。馬太提供的家譜始於亞伯拉罕，並透過大衛王系追溯到耶穌的“繼父”約瑟。這種譜系對於猶太人來說是至關重要的，它是繼承權的證明，包括精神和物質上的繼承權。上帝與大衛的約定承諾彌賽亞將來自大衛的直系血統，並將坐在以色列的寶座上。而耶穌在這部福音書中被反覆稱為“大衛的子孫”。
