霍亂是一種由攝入受到霍亂弧菌這種細菌汙染的食物或水引起的急性腸道感染。霍亂的潛伏期短，從不足 1 天到 5 天，併產生腸毒素，造成大量無痛水瀉，如不及時給予治療，可迅速導致嚴重脫水和死亡。大多數患者還出現嘔吐。

Cholera is an acute intestinal infection caused by ingestion of food or water contaminated with the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. It has a short incubation period, from less than 1 day to 5 days, and produces an enterotoxin that causes a copious, painless, watery diarrhoea that can quickly lead to severe dehydration and death if treatment is not promptly given. Vomiting also occurs in most patients.
